A Myanmar delegation led by Permanent Secretary U Hlaing Oo from the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism participated in the 2024 International Tourism and Cultures Exhibition and Conference, held under the theme “Preserving the Past, Shaping the Future: Responsible Journeys through Cultural Heritage”, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 3 to 6 October.
Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of the Ministry
of Arts and Culture attended the event’s opening ceremony. It featured
presentations from Myanmar, Kenya, and Zambia on the topic of “Sustainable
Tourism for Community’s Future”.
During the discussion, the Permanent
Secretary, on behalf of Myanmar, highlighted the implementation of
culture-based tourism activities and other tourism-related services in the main
tourist areas of Myanmar. He discussed responsible tourism policies, community-based
tourism standards, and the discovery of destinations in cultural heritage areas
such as Bagan, emphasizing the importance of residents in the long-term
sustainability of these destinations.
Additionally, about 20,000 visitors from
both local and international backgrounds attended the 2024 International
Tourism and Cultures Exhibition & Conference, allowing Myanmar to
disseminate information about its exciting destinations and the necessary
details for visiting the country.
