SUPERVISED by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, legal action is being taken against illicit trade across the country.
During inspections on 27 and 29 September, combined on-duty teams
confiscated four unregistered motorbikes worth K2.1 million in Magway, Minbu,
and Thayet Districts, smuggled foodstuffs worth K10.8 million from the 3rd-mile
bus terminal in Kawthoung Township, as well as 1.99 tonnes of illegal timber,
various industrial materials, an unregistered vehicle, and four unregistered
motorbikes worth K20.9 million in PyinOoLwin and Patheingyi Townships. The
action was taken under Customs procedures, the Export-Import Law, and the
Forest Law.
Similarly, teams managed by the Ayeyawady and Bago Region Illegal Trade
Eradication Task Forces seized six unregistered motorbikes (valued at K1.85
million) in Myaungmya, Hinthada, and Pyapon Districts, and 0.776 tonne of
illegal teak worth K35,000 in Kyonpyaw District. Legal action was carried out
under the Forest Law.
On 29 and 30 September, combined on-duty teams intercepted four vehicles
(estimated at K155 million) travelling from Thamanya and Myawady to Yangon,
carrying industrial materials, foodstuffs, and consumer goods worth K22.45
million without official documentation at the Nyaungkhashay x-ray station.
Additionally, 0.62 tonne of illegal teak and 5.693 tonnes of unlawful timber
valued at K1.55 million were seized in Bago and Toungoo Districts. The action
was conducted under Customs procedures and the Forest Law.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported that 22
seizures were made between 27 and 30 September, with an estimated value of
K214.7 million.
