FLOODS have happened nationwide as a result of continual heavy rains; however, No 82-down Mawlamyine-Yangon train departed from Mawlamyine on the morning of 12 September, according to its regular timetable.
The train
departed Mawlamyine at the regular schedule 8:30 am, with a total of 290
passengers onboard, according to Mawlamyine railway station.
Myanmar
Railways’ staff have inspected railway bridges between Donwun station and
Hninpale station, which often flood in the rainy season, and so far, it is safe
for trains to travel, said the railway station.
It said that
the No 82-down train would arrive at Yangon Railway Station at 5:45 pm.
So far,
Mawlamyine-Yangon trains run on a daily basis, and upper-class tickets are sold
one to three days in advance and ordinary class tickets are sold a day in
advance at the booking ticket counter, from 7 am to 3 pm. Yangon-Mawlamyine
railway is used by many rail passengers, and trains are always packed.
