THE Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) urged the people living in low-lying areas of under 15 feet to evacuate to the nearest cyclone shelters or highlands as the wave height can reach nine feet to 15 feet in Cyclone Mocha.
Cyclone Mocha is likely to cross between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukpyu (Myanmar) at a minimum wind speed of 75 miles per hour to 90 miles per hour and 110 miles per hour to 132 miles per hour at maximum.
Then, the wave height may reach six feet to 15 feet and so the people living in low-lying areas of under 15 feet should evacuate to safe places.
There can be floods near the vicinity areas of Sittway and Maungtaw townships and the wave can occur from Myitwa and Taungpyoletwe along the Naf River, mouth of Mayu River to Rathedaung, Buthidaung townships along Mayu River, the eastern coastal region.
Moreover, floods can also occur in the eastern part of Phayonka island, Minbya, Myebon, Kyaukpyu and Manaung townships when the wave reaches about 15 ft in height.
Similarly, the vicinity areas of Thandwe, Thabyuchaing, Maungshwelaychaing, Ngapali and Gwa such as Alechaung, Yaytwintuu, Yahinphya and Kinsharshay can be flooded and those living in storm-hit areas should move to the nearest cyclone shelter or highlands in time, the department announced.
