MoFA, MoIC Union Ministers meet officers/staff who will serve at Myanmar embassies, permanent representative offices, and consulates

UNION Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and Union Minister for International Cooperation U Ko Ko Hlaing delivered speeches respectively at the meeting with officers and staff who will serve duties at the Myanmar Embassy, permanent representative offices, and consulates in foreign countries yesterday.

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Myo Htut, diplomats, directors-general, deputy directors-general and officials and staff from the ministry attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Union Minister U Than Swe mentioned that the staff are not assigned to serve in foreign countries alternatively but the suitable ones are selected by the department heads. It is needed to safeguard the national interests and serve the duties on the front line as diplomacy is the first line of defence showing loyalty to the country. It is vitally important that diplomats must be more effective in their work and always consider their ethics in addition to the rules and regulations of the civil service. They need to keep studying the current situation of the world and the development of the country to be able to give a proper response and protect the national interest of the country. They should make efforts despite the ranks. Negotiations should be done in reference to international relations to promote better bilateral interests.

Then, Union Minister U Ko Ko Hlaing called for efforts to be good diplomats in serving duties. He talked about the meaning of Embassy and Messenger, saying the embassy represents the country and it should stand for the national interests of the country and the diplomats should share the messages and attitude of the government for its people to the international arena. Being the foreign service staff, they are eligible for privilege and immunity. Privilege means being recognized as a diplomat with proper authority and one should make efforts to be a good diplomat. The Union minister also urged them to be perfect diplomats learning international affairs, international laws and the rules of the Vienna Convention.
