Union Chief Justice-led Myanmar delegation attends 10th Council of ASEAN Chief Justices’ Meeting-CACJ in Malaysia


THE Myanmar delegation led by Union Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo attended the 10th Coun­cil of ASEAN Chief Justices’ Meeting-CACJ which was held from 4 to 5 November in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, organized by the Federal Court of Malay­sia. The Union Chief Justice at­tended the 10th CACJ meeting together with the Chief Justices of ASEAN countries.

The Chief Justice made an opening speech together with Mr Tun Tengku Maimun Bin­ti Tuan Mat, Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Malaysia, the new Chair of the CACJ and the Chief Justices of ASEAN countries. Then, Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo discussed the reports of the Working Group of ASEAN Judiciaries Portal (AJP), Facilitating Service of Civil Processes within ASEAN, Case Management and Court Technology, Judicial Education and Training and ASEAN+ Meetings. The Chief Justices and the Heads of Delegations agreed on the draft and signed the Kuala Lumpur Declaration. In the meeting, the Chief Justic­es of ASEAN countries agreed to the inaugural CACJ Re­treat which reflects on CACJ’s achievements over the past ten years and charted CACJ’s stra­tegic agenda for the next ten years, to be held in 2023.

On the second day of In­augural ASEAN+ Meetings, the Chief Justices of ASEAN countries attended the meeting in person and the Chief Jus­tice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Korea, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Japan and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the People Republic of China attended the meeting online. Regarding the topic of Court Technology and Access to Justice: Challenges and Key Success Factors, Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo dis­cussed the experience of the Myanmar Judiciary.

The Union Chief Justice at­tended the meeting along with the Supreme Court Justice U Thaung Naing and Myanmar Focal points of CACJ Working Groups.
