AT the invitation of Russian Federation Minister of Transport Mr Vitaly Saveliev, a delegation led by Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San attended the 16th International Forum and Transport Week 2022 exhibition held in Moscow from 15 to 18 November and returned to Yangon yesterday evening.
On 16 November, the Union minister and party attended the Railway
Locomotive Assembly and accessories production quality control workshop, Conference
on using drones in urban transport, and agreement signing ceremony between
civil aviation authorities of Myanmar and the Russian Federation for Yangon-Vladivostok,
Yangon-Novosibirsk, and Yangon-Krasnoyarsk bilateral flights.
The Union minister also held talks with Deputy Minister Mr Igor
Petrovich Chalik of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.
The Union minister and party attended the “International Transport
Cooperation in 2022” held on 17 November and visited the exhibits displayed
during Transport Week.
The Russian Federation underscored that they have many experienced
professionals and private companies in the fields of construction of railway
transport, repair, maintenance and logistics and they can provide the necessary
assistance for the development of Myanmar’s transport sector. Myanmar and the
Russian Federation also exchanged views on bilateral cooperation to develop Myanmar’s
railway sector. An agreement was signed between the civil aviation authorities of
the two countries for the flights between Yangon and three cities in the
Russian Federation. Myanmar Airways International (MAI) also plans to start
flights between the two countries in 2023.
In the Plenary Session on International Transport
Cooperation, the Union minister expressed that Myanmar is geographically located
at the focal point of the region so many business areas can allow foreign investment
opportunities. The railway link between China, India and Thailand under the
international railway network is underway, he added.
Asian Highway, ASEAN Highway and India-Myanmar- Thai
trilateral road are also under implementation. At the same time, ASEAN BIMSTEC and
GMS member countries are coordinating for cross-border transport of goods and
passengers, uniformity of procedural specifications between the two countries,
and implementation of multi-modal transport promotion is underway, the Union
minister stated.
He further discussed that it is necessary to develop the North-South
Transport Corridor to connect ASEAN with Russia. A competent logistics chain
can enhance economic development and friendly relations among the countries in
the region, he stressed.
A total of 1,400 representatives including 160
representatives from 36 countries, Russian officials, experts, technicians, business
organizations and observers attended the meeting.
