A meeting was held at Kanong Hall in the Hlinethaya Industrial Zone of Yangon Region yesterday morning to discuss the establishment of Assessment Centres in the garment industry and the production of more Assessors. The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the National Skills Standards Authority (NSSA), Deputy Minister for Labour U Win Shein and officials from the Assessment and Certification Committee (ACC), chairpersons of industrial zones, garment manufacturers and managers, and department officials.
The National Skills Standards Authority (NSSA) is focusing
on human resource development and the production of skilled workers, with a
target of 5,000 workers to do an assessment in the 2022- 2023FY and the
priority will be given to garment factory workers.
According to the business plan, six NSSA awareness seminars
were held in the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory from October 2021 to March 2022,
and the skills were assessed for 380 workers in the garment, electrical and
brick industries, as well as the Maple Win Garment Factory and Government
Technical College (Nay Pyi Taw), were recognized as garment inspection and
evaluation department.
From 2014 to date, NSSA has developed more than 650
Inspectors and Assessors in 81 professional positions 200 inspection centres
were established and more than 17,500 skilled workers were recognized for 30
occupations.
There are nearly 40 NSSA-certified garment inspection
centres in Yangon Region with over 5,300 NSSA-certified skilled workers and
only 30 Inspectors and Assessors. The Deputy Minister said that a lot of inspectors
need to be trained and NSSA accreditation inspection centres need to be
established in proportion to the number of skilled workers. He highlighted that
entrepreneurs need to be interested in cooperating in the process of producing
skilled workers for the development of Myanmar’s garment sector.
Afterwards, a representative from the ACC and a
representative of the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association discussed and
asked questions, and the Deputy Minister coordinated the necessary matters.
