Illegal timbers, consumer goods, foodstuffs, medicines, unregistered motorbikes and vehicles seized

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, action is being taken under the law against illegal trades across the country.

On 3 May, a combined inspection team on duty under the supervision of the Kayin State Anti-Illegal Trade Special Task Force conducted inspections at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Checkpoint. It confiscated K24,900,000 worth of foodstuffs and consumer goods that showed no official documents from a six-wheel truck (estimated value of K25,000,000) heading to Mawlamyine from Myawady. The action was taken under the Customs Law.

Similarly, Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint seized K1,300,000 worth of illegally-carried M-150 energy drink bottles from a vehicle heading to Yangon from Thaton and charged them under the Customs Law.

In addition, the Myanmar Industrial Port Container Checkpoint captured K30,425,000 worth of consumer goods, which were not declared in the imported declaration, and the Yangon international airport cargo warehouse captured K65,540,500 worth of medicines that did not show any official documents. The action was taken under the Customs Law.

On the same day, the Magway Region anti-illegal trade team seized 13,500 gallons of illegal crude oil worth K60,750,000 from three trucks (estimated value of K60,000,000) in Pakokku Township. It took action under the Public Property Protection Act.

Moreover, on 4 May, a combined team led by the Bago Region Forest Department confiscated K207,900 worth of 1.3860 tonnes of illegal teak in the Khabaung forest reserve of Toungoo District.

On the same day, the Sagaing Region Forest Department seized K446,940 worth of 1.4898 tonnes of illegal teak doors and charged them under the Forest Law.

The combined inspection team consisting of Myanmar police members also confiscated two vehicles without licences and an unregistered motorbike worth K11,600,000 and took action under the Export and Import Law.

Therefore, on 3 and 4 May, 17 arrests were made (an estimated value of K249,745,340), according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.
