ON the third day of the Maha Thingyan water festival, the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area was busy with people enjoying splashing water on each other, donating food and snacks, and doing good deeds yesterday.
Famous pagodas and monasteries in
Nay Pyi Taw were also alive, with pilgrims fasting, meditating, and paying
homage in the morning. At the Nay Pyi Taw mayor’s water-splashing pandal and
the Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army) Thingyan pandal, famous national
artistes and the choral dance troupes from the townships in Nay Pyi Taw
entertained with their performances. The pandals also offered refreshments to
participants of the festival.
In addition, the Walking Thingyan
was held in the Nay Pyi Taw Water Fountain Park, and prominent places,
including beach resorts in Zeyathiri Township, were also bustling with
holidaymakers from across the country. People also built makeshift tents in
villages, wards and townships in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area and enjoyed the
festival happily and safely.
Ensuring people celebrate the
festival in peace, relevant authorities provided security and facilitated the
traffic. The Myanmar traditional Maha Thingyan is held to welcome a new year by
pouring water to remove the dirt from the old year and prevent it from entering
the new year. It is a traditional festival that people celebrate with love in
the country.
