UNION Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko, accompanied by Rakhine State government officials, paid homage to State Ovadacariya Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Gandhavasaka Pandita Dr Bhaddanta Pannyasami at Aung Mingala Monastery in MraukU Township yesterday.
Then, the Union Minister and party
attended the opening ceremony of Anaga Yadana Myay-MraukU photo contest, which
was jointly conducted by the ministry and the Rakhine State government at Andaw
Thein Temple.
In his speech, the Union Minister said the
complete nomination dossier for MraukU cultural heritage zone was submitted to
World Heritage Committee in time. The photo contest was held for the first time
and is estimated to convene in Sittway, Thandwe, Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay
and Bagan. MraukU photographers will show a total of 120 photos in the
competition. He also highlighted the advantages in job opportunities, high
income and socio-economic development when MraukU cultural heritage zone is
listed on World Heritage List.
Then, the Union minister viewed the
photos and visited Andaw Thein Temple, Chainkite Pitaka Chamber and
Laungpunpyauk pagoda.
He also inspected the MraukU
Palace, MraukU Archaeological Museum, Cultural Museum in Sittway, Buddha
Museum, and renovation works on Lawkananda pagoda and offered cash donations.
