AS it is necessary to train the students to have experiences for life as well as learning education at the university, good environments must be created for students to widen their scopes, said Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at the coordination meeting on the higher education sector of the Ministry of Education, at the ministry in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
In
his speech, the Senior General first and foremost expressed his wish to improve
the education standard of the country. But states and ethnic areas faced
weakness of rural education due to language barriers and poor transport
facilities. In successive eras of the governments, weakness happened in the
education sector because of lesser number of teachers.
In
the socialist era, the academic system was weak in learning English. Hence,
students faced difficulties in studying high education to keep abreast of the
international community. In the time of the State Law and Order Restoration
Council, emphasis was placed on the passing of examination rather than having
actual knowledge from learning. Hence, the 30- year national education
programme is being implemented for the development of the education sector.
As
the development of a country depends on a larger number of educated persons,
officials of the education sector must strive for an increasing number of
educated persons. Some three million people among 55 million are graduates.
Hence, it can be seen that less than 10 per cent of people can learn higher
education. More than 18 million of the population could join the primary and
middle school education. As education is crucial for the development of the
nation, efforts are being made to develop the education sector during the
period when the Tatmadaw took the State responsibilities.
Universities
are institutions to create environments for the students to consider knowledge and
skills and take the learning opportunities. Classrooms and practical rooms must
be systematic for students to have easy access to the learning. As the qualifications
of faculty members are of great importance, they have higher academic skills and
knowledge to give comprehensive lectures to the students.
Universities
must be facilitated with sports grounds and gymnasiums for students to take
sports. Faculty members need to teach students with good behaviours, good
morals, techniques and critical thinking. As it is necessary to train the
students to have experiences for life as well as learning education at the
university, good environments must be created for students to widen their scope
of vision.
University
education is not to do rote learning but studies and thinking. Interactive
discussions between students and faculty members can create uplift of critical
thinking of students. While the government is striving for the development of
the country, faculty members and students need to improve the education sector.
The government is carrying out physical and mental improvement of the students.
Academicians
need to teach students to have actual skills and knowledge and urge the
students to read a lot for the improvement of their educational qualifications.
Officials
from the academic sector must be assigned in the academic sector and those from
the management sector in the relevant sectors for ensuring smooth
administration and management measures. Refresher courses must be conducted for
faculty members to be able to study newer knowledge.
The
Senior General stressed the need for spending the budget under the financial rules
and regulations as well as laws. Finance must be allotted properly.
Administrative measures must be taken fairly. All tasks must be carried out
with goodwill.
Later,
the Senior General cordially conversed with rectors, principals and attendees.
