MoC organizes 2nd-day meeting with commercial attaches, WTO counselor

THE Ministry of Commerce organized the second-day meeting with the Myanmar Commercial Attaches serving in 13 foreign countries and the counsellor to the World Trade Organization to boost trade volumes and expand exports yesterday afternoon in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the meeting, the Myanmar Commercial Attaches in South Korea, Japan, Switzerland, Australia, South Africa, Belgium, Germany and India and the counsellor to the World Trade Organization presented the possibility of boosting bilateral trade between the respective countries and Myanmar, to expand new exports, Myanmar’s participation in the World Trade Organization and further plans.

Union Minister Dr Pwint San said he was pleased to see that the capacity of the attaches had improved during their tenure and that they had been able to work smartly to promote trade and investment. He urged them to make effort as Myanmar is a major exporter of agricultural products, and exporting value-added products instead of agricultural raw materials would profit more, in addition, to creating job opportunities for the people.

He underlined the need to study the exports of other countries in the markets of the respective countries and try to emulate the market for the products of Myanmar. He also instructed them to study and report on other forms of operation, including payment matters, in order to successfully implement the normal trade through land borders.

Deputy Minister U Nyunt Aung urged the commercial attaches to submit information about policy changes, rules and regulations to be followed in bilateral trade, other rules and regulations issued from time to time in the respective countries as  soon  as  possible  so  that  the  Myanmar  government,  organizations, entrepreneurs have time to  prepare.  He  also  instructed  the  commercial  attaches  serving  in  the  bordering  countries  to  liaise  with  the  relevant  departments in order to ensure a smooth flow of goods and open the border checkpoints.
