Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi and officials visited the Wood-based Industry Department in South Dagon Wood-Based Industrial Zone, Myanma Timber Enterprise and inspected the No (10) Furniture Factory yesterday morning in Yangon.
During the visit, the General
Manager of the Wood-Based Industrial Zone explained the background history of
the industry and cooperation with Prowess Myanmar Company Limited to export
furniture.
The Union Minister said in
resource extraction, priority is given to forest protection, and only the
minimum demand is being extracted, adding exports of logs have been suspended
since 2014 and logging in Bago Yoma has been suspended for ten years.
In the 2021-2022 FY, logging will
be suspended for one year. For the development of the wood-based industry, more
value-added wood products will be produced. The department and the company must
work together in teamwork to export to foreign markets.
The Union Minister asked about
the technology of wood finishing machines, the market and current situation,
and coordinated the needs.
The Union Minister visited
Century Myanmar Private Limited Sawmill in East Dagon Township, inspected the
operation condition of the factory and gave necessary orders.
Afterwards, he arrived at the
National Wood Industry Ltd Teak processing factory, and the Managing Director
of the factory explained the working condition of the factory, the current
situation of Myanmar Wood-based industries, exports from Myanmar and the development
of Myanmar’s future Wood-based industry sector and the Union Minister
coordinated as necessary. — MNA
