The event kicks off with playing of the Lancang-Mekong theme song. In his opening remark Union Minister Thura U Aung Ko said Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Viet Nam, Thailand and China were depending on and living together in the Mekong-Lancang basin since years past and member countries were still facing challenges in constructing basic infrastructures, raising industrial works and sustainable development works in economy and social.
As cooperation mechanism among the six member countries need to be raised as soon as possible, meeting of artistes from the six countries was being held. Furthermore, at this age, it is important to strengthen and increase mutual understanding through exchange of culture social environs such as religion, language, traditions, practices and transparency.
As such this project is being initiated with an aim to establish a Mekong-Lancang cultural exchange region through cooperation of cultural groups and youth artistes from six member countries of Mekong-Lancang region. When Mekong-Lancang region countries conduct projects with Mekong-Lancang special fund, drawing up of the projects and requesting of funds are done according to three pillars and five cooperation sectors of Sanya Declaration.
The three pillars are public policy and security; economic and sustainable development; and social, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges and the five cooperation sectors are connectivity; expand production capacity; cross border economic cooperation; cooperation in sustainable water resources management and utilization; and cooperation in agriculture and poverty reduction.
Myanmar was granted permission to conduct ten projects by five ministries with Mekong-Lancang first special fund and Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture is conducting two projects. These two projects are workshop on Managing Cultural Heritage in Lancang-Mekong Countries to be organized by Department of Archaeology and National Museum in February 2019 and this Mekong-Lancang Cultural Exchange Youth Camp organized by Culture and National University of Art and Culture (Mandalay).
On behalf of the Republic of Union of Myanmar Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, the Union Minister thanked the Government of the People’s Republic of China that assisted toward holding the Mekong-Lancang Cultural Exchange Youth Camp and artistes youth representatives from Lancang-Mekong countries who cooperated enthusiastically. It is hoped that through this event artistes from Lancang-Mekong countries increase friendship, trust, realize the value and respect the cultures of others, cooperate and exchange new views and ideas said the Union Minister.
Next, Mandalay Region minister for agriculture, livestock and irrigation Dr. Soe Than spoke of his happiness and honor for holding the Mekong-Lancang Cultural Exchange Youth Camp in the cultural capital of Mandalay.
Afterwards, Ambassador of People’s Republic of China to Myanmar Mr. Hong Liang and Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Chairman Ministry of Foreign Affairs International Organisations and Economic Department Director General U Chan Aye delivered speeches.
Following the speeches entertainments were performed by students from National University of Arts and Culture (Mandalay) and group leaders from Lancang-Mekong Cooperation member countries were presented with commemorative gifts. Artistes youth and officials from six member countries of Lancang-Mekong region then took commemorative group photo.
Mekong-Lancang Cultural Exchange Youth Camp will be held from 27 to 31 January in Mandalay Hotel Shwepyitha and is attended by groups from six Mekong-Lancang countries with each group consisting of four youth artistes and one group leader.
