UNION Minister for Health and Sports Dr. Myint Htwe attended the opening ceremony for a new Taekwondo centre yesterday morning at the Youth Training Centre Stadium (Thuwunna) in Thingangyun Township, Yangon.
First Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe, Korean Ambassador to Myanamr Mr. Lee Sanghwa, Yangon Region Hluttaw Speaker U Tin Maung Tun, Director General for the Department of Sports and Physical Education U Myo Hlaing, donor Mr. Shin Hyunsuk from Booyoung Group and chairman of Myanmar Taekwondo Federation U Mya Han participated in the ceremony by cutting the ribbons.
In his opening speech, Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr. Myint Htwe expressed his thanks to the donor and organizers for the new Taekwondo centre, where Taekwondo athletes can conduct training camps, regional and state tournaments can be held, youth Taekwondo athletes can conduct their training and a new generation of athlete can be produced.
Moreover, Taekwondo does not require much space for those practicing the sport, and there are many benefits for students of this sport, such as lower blood sugar levels, hypertension, diabetes and other diseases, he added.
During the ceremony, Korean Ambassador to Myanamr Mr. Lee Sanghwa, donor Mr. Shin Hyunsuk from Booyoung Group and chairman of Myanmar Taekwondo Federation U Mya Han delivered speeches. Following this, they observed a Taekwondo demonstration.
They then awarded prizes to winners at a tournament. The new Taekwondo Centre has been under construction since 2016, and included a donation of US$ 400,000 by the Booyoung Group of ROK.
