Coordination meeting held on integrating NEC, WEC into North-South Economic Corridor

A coordination meeting on integrating Northern Economic Corridor (NEC) and Western Economic Corridor (WEC) into North-South Economic Corridor (NSEC) was held at the meeting hall of Ministry of Construction, Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.


The meeting was attended by Union Ministers U Han Zaw, U Thant Sin Maung, Dr. Than Myint, U Thaung Tun, departmental heads and officials.

First, Union Minister for Construction U Han Zaw said the day’s meeting was to coordinate the integration of NEC and WEC into NSEC. Relevant ministries are requested to provide their comments and discuss to designate and confirm the Greater Mekong economic corridors and the discussion agreements will be submitted to the government meeting said the Union Minister.

Next, Department of Road Director General U Ohn Lwin explained with Power Point on prioritizing the integration of NEC and WEC in Myanmar into NSEC.

Afterwards, Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Thant Sin Maung said that when the corridors of GMS (Greater Mekong Sub-region) were designated, Tamu, India to Lashio was called NEC while Mandalay to Yangon Thilawa was called WEC. The aim is to integrate NEC and WEC into NSEC and support the matter as integrating NEC and WEC into NSEC would be very beneficial.

Later Union Minister for Commerce Dr. Than Myint said integrating NEC and WEC into NSEC would smoothen the flow of goods, strengthen the economy and trade can be widely conducted.

Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Thaung Tun also said that integrating NEC and WEC into NSEC would improve investment and once trade improves, flow of goods will speed up and develop the economy.

Meeting attendees then conducted sector wise discussion and coordinated on integrating NEC and WEC into NSEC it is learnt.
