Union Minister for
Transport and Communications U Thant Sin Maung delivered the opening address at
the launching ceremony of Myanmar National Portal, held at the Hilton Hotel in Nay
Pyi Taw’s hotel zone yesterday morning.
The Myanmar National
Portal is a project by the Ministry of Transport and Communication to boost the
Myanmar’s e-Government agenda and to offer a single window public service
containing all the websites and e-services of government departments and
organizations.
In his opening
address, the Union Minister said the development of e-Government is the
development of the nation. He said Myanmar e-Government Master Plan 2016 was
drawn and the e-Government Steering Committee, Working Committee on
Implementation, and subcommittees have been formed. He said his ministry
regularly works to improve connectivity, ease of use and smooth operations. He
said that since there is a 90 per cent mobile coverage in the country, they will
be taking advantage of it to provide services to the mobile users. He said the
public should have access to all the information and services provided by
ministry departments. He said that that being the case, his ministry has
carried out the Telecom Sector Reform Project, with loans from the World Bank,
and the Myanmar National Portal project in collaboration with Viet Nam’s FPT
Information System. He said the participation of all government ministries is
crucial as the portal is of national significance. He said ministries have to
be responsible for providing accurate information and regular updates. He said
only true and comprehensive news and information will create a
publicly-beneficial national portal, and requested CIOs from ministries to
continue collaborations.
Next, the Chairman of
Viet Nam’s FPT Information System Board of members Mr. Trieu Duong Dung
delivered the welcoming address, and Daw Nwe Ni Soe Yin, the Project Director
