Following is the unofficial translation of the full text of the message from U T Khun Myat, Speaker of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw.

Message from U T Khun Myat, Speaker of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, to commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the 8888 Uprising

I wish all of the guests here including dignitaries from organizations attending this Commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the 8888 Uprising to enjoy good health and happiness physically and mentally.

Hluttaws are considered the basic foundation of democracy and the life-blood of a nation as well. Hluttaws, paying heed to the people’s voices, desires and views and their needs, are working for the best of the people.

As all of you know, I, together with the representatives of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, and by making the best use our intelligence and energy, am striving based on the policy and work processes laid down by the State for the emergence of a democratic federal Union.

Regarding the democratic reforms, people have expectation to see the result in a short time, but we should be aware that a basic nature of democracy demands taking time rather than getting answer immediately. Anyway, except the democratic system, there is no other system which can tackle the challenges of the 21st Century.

We are to step up our efforts for strengthening the democratic system and shall carry on our cooperation for the development of the country through negotiation.

All citizens are urged to work together with us for the development of the State and the people, following the existing laws and without partisanship, racism, regionalism, religionism and ideologism.

Hence, by carrying out our respective duties on the journey of democratic reforms with foresight and right conduct, and with genuine goodwill for the country, we believe that progress of works for emergence of a federal democratic Union would be achieved.

U T Khun Myat

Speaker

Pyidaungsu Hluttaw
