Madauk embankment remains safe despite rising water level




Sittoung River in Madauk Town reached a danger level of 1,279 centimetres, but the Madauk embankment remained safe, it is learnt.


Due to continuous rain, houses and roads were inundated, but at the moment, Madauk embankment is still holding strong.

Sand bags were placed to further strengthen the embankment, said Nyaunlebin Township Irrigation and Water Utilisation Management Department head U Nyunt Lwin. Five flood relief centres were opened in Madauk town and were providing food and health care services to persons displaced because of the floods, while the public and donor organisations were donating rice packets and dried rations, it is learnt.
