A
traditional fireworks festival of Yinn Gyar ethnic, named Pan Lhu Fei, was held
in Namsam, southern Shan State, yesterday. The festival was organized by the
Yinn Gyar and Yinn Nat ethnic groups living in Namsam Township, Loilem
District, in southern Shan State.
Few
members of the ethnic group live in Myanmar, even in Shan State, said U Lone
Lwe, a village administrator. The festival is annually held on every full moon
day of Kason. The festival starts with the launch of competing fireworks shaped
in the form of rockets. Some 50 participants compete in the festival. Referees
decide the winners of the festival depending on which rockets reach the target
on ground.
