The
last day of the Myanmar Press Council’s (MPC) second paper reading session,
conducted under the theme “Democratic State of Myanmar and the establishment of
a strong fourth pillar,” was held at the Information Ministry’s Printing and
Publishing Department (PPD), Central Press Building, Theinbyu Street, Yangon,
yesterday morning.
The
paper reading session’s Organising Committee Chairman and MPC Vice Chairman (1)
U Ohn Kyaing (Hanthawady U Ohn Kyaing) and MPC members Dr. Zaw Than and U Myo
Ko Myo acted as chairmen and introduced the paper readers to the audience.
Next,
Dr. Maung Maung San presented “World of the Jimmy and our world,” followed by
paper readings on “Battles of press freedom” by U Myat Khaing (MJA) and “Review
of present news media” by U Kyi Naing (MWU).
In
the afternoon, the paper reading session continued, and MPC members Dr Tin Tun
and U Khaing Myat Kyaw, and Associate Secretary-1 of MPC Dr. Thin Thin Thar
acted as chairpersons. They then introduced the paper readers to the audience.
U
Nyunt Tin (Maung Nyein Thu–Gyobinkauk) (MWA) read “Journalists and ethics,”
followed by paper readings on “Status of media freedom during the NLD
government” by U Chit Win Maung (MJU) and “Rakhine State affair and usage of a
peaceful newspaper” by U Zeya (Thargyi Maung Zeya).
It
was followed by a question-and-answer section, and chairpersons and paper
readers were awarded prizes by MPC Vice Chairman (1) U Ohn Kyaing (Hanthawady U
Ohn Kyaing) and MPC Vice Chairman (2) Dr. Myo Thant Tin.
Book
lovers thronged the more than 100 bookstalls at yesterday’s ceremony.
