THE Ministry of Health and Sports
is continuing to providecooperation works in the health sector for the public,
in response to the fire at Htein Bin garbage dump, Hlinethaya Township, Yangon
Region.
Some 26 inpatients, including 19
from 24 to 26 April and seven on 27 April, as well as 21 outpatients, including
19 from 24 to 26 April and two on 27 April, were treated for smoke inhalation
and other related ailments at Hlinethaya People’s Hospital since the dump fire
started. The carboxyhaemoglobin level in the blood of the inpatients admitted
to the hospital on 27 April was found to be normal. Of the patients undergoing treatment at the hospital, six were discharged from the hospital from 24 to 26 April, while the condition of the remaining 19 patients is improving.

The Ministry of Health and Sports
conducted a coordination meeting with the related departments and organisations
at Hlinethaya People’s Hospital on 27 April.

Health Department officials, central field group members, officials from Yangon City Development Committee’s health department, Myanmar Red Cross Society, Myanmar civil relief group and welfare groups attended the meeting. The difficulties faced in providing healthcare services, requirements and future works were discussed at the meeting and a decision was made to meet every morning to assign works.

The Yangon region Public Health
Department is reporting daily to the region government about the results of the
air quality measurements and the status of patients undergoing treatment for
smoke inhalation and related ailments. It is also continuing to provide health
consultation, support and treatment services to the firefighting personnel.
The Ministry of Health and Sports is
also coordinating with the World Health Organisation (WHO) resident
representative office and the regional office to obtain technical support and
assistance. The Ministry of Health and Sports is closely monitoring the
occurrence of smoke inhalation and related ailments and is coordinating and
working with the (Yangon) region government, related departments and other
organisations.
