Dr Win Myat Aye attends meeting in China on strategies for the disabled

Dr Win Myat Aye, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, attended the High-Level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Mid-Point Review of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities being held in People’s Republic of China.

The meeting was held with the intention of reviewing development situations including the difference to be experienced and challenges in carrying out the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities (2013-2022) and the Incheon Strategy, discussing instructions on policies for further implementation, upgrading the implementation for the remaining half of the decade and laying down a notification through discussions.
Present at the meeting were representatives of governmental institutions from 35 countries in Asian and Pacific Regions, UN Agencies, civil societies and disabilities-related organisations.
At the meeting, law, rules and regulations on rights for the disabled, formation of a national committee, disabilities-related social protection, examination of situations on child development, resettlement, a convention on opportunities of disabled persons, the UN, Incheon Strategy and cooperation between goals of sustainable development, it was learnt.
Myanmar learned about the Incheon Strategy currently implemented in regional countries and the experiences and difficulties of all-inclusive development, and how to upgrade international cooperation which can result in human resources and techniques to help the disabled.
During the meeting, the Union Minister held talks with the disabled development association of the Korean Government and the Asian and Pacific region disabled development team committee, it was learnt.—MNA
