Poached lumber seized on Ayeyawady River

Kathar District Forestry Department officials seized 90 tons of illegal lumber, including the Dipterocarpus tuberculatus species, from 10 wooden rafts discovered near Kaukkway Creek between Shwegu Township, Kachin State and Katha Township, Sagaing Region, on 25 August.

In a separate incident on 19 August, law enforcement officials arrested seven people who were onboard rafts near Nalae Inn Village, Katha Township and seized 65 tons of contraband lumber.
