State Counsellor meets Philippine President

State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi received Mr Rodrigo Duterte, the President of the Philippines, at the Credentials Hall of the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.

During the meeting, they discussed matters related to strengthening cooperation in ASEAN, promoting bilateral relations, cooperation and provision of technical assistance in agriculture and vocational training sectors including trade sector and production of quality seeds compatible with the region, Rakhine issues and humanitarian aid. Cooperation in anti-human trafficking, anti-drug campaigns and anti-terrorism efforts were also discussed at the meeting.

After the meeting, the President of the Philippines Mr. Rodrigo Duterte donated US$300,000 to State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of the Central Committee for the Implementation of Peace and Development in Rakhine State to be used for humanitarian assistance in Rakhine State.

The meeting was attended by Union Ministers Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe, Lt-Gen Sein Win, Dr Pe Myint, Dr Aung Thu, U Khin Maung Cho and Dr Than Myint, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Tin, Deputy Minister U Min Thu, Myanmar Ambassador to the Philippines U Win Naing and responsible officials.
