Two men suspected of being involved in
the violent 9 October attacks that killed nine policemen were arrested
yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off, troops searched a
camp for displaced people in the village of Kotankauk in Maungtaw Township
yesterday and found the first suspect, Mamud Dusaung.
Following his arrest, the troops
conducted an area clearance operation in Kotankauk Village (Ywama) at about
2:20am and arrested the second suspect, Abu Karsen.
The troops handed over the two suspects
to a local police station for further interrogation.
The two men are suspected of involvement
in the early morning attacks on border guard police outposts in Maungtaw that
killed nine policemen.
Meanwhile, the Myanmar Navy searched a
suspected fishing boat from Bangladesh about three miles south-west of
Alethankyaw Village in Yathedaung Township yesterday and found six migrants.
The members of the Navy found six
Bangladesh nationals on board and arrested the six namely Barmin Hussein,
Mawtekawyi, Yusuf Ullah, Mahamum Hussein, Tartar Hussein and Marmum Harki.
They have been handed over to the local
police station in Ale Thankyaw Village.
