Hot air balloon tours have officially resumed over the Bagan ancient cultural zone for the tourist season, offering visitors panoramic aerial views of thousands of ancient pagodas and the Ayeyawady River landscape. Balloons over Bagan kicked off operations on 15 October, with Oriental Ballooning, STT, and Golden Eagle scheduled to launch over the coming weeks through mid-November.
Rates for foreign travellers range between US$150 and US$230, with Myanmar citizens paying the equivalent in local currency. Piloted by experienced expatriate captains, the flights depart from designated launch areas near Field 28/3, Wetkyi-In Gubyauknge and the location south of No 7 power station, granting unobstructed aerial views across Bagan’s 45-square-kilometre heritage zone before touching down near local fields. Services will run through late February 2027, with potential extensions into March if favourable weather holds. — Thitsa (MNA)/ST
