China Datang Corporation, a state-owned Chinese company, has announced plans to help meet Myanmar’s energy needs by building on the existing Dapein I Hydropower Plant in Kachin State.
China Datang
Corporation has already conducted preliminary assessments and feasibility
studies on wind, solar and hydropower resources in the Dapein River basin area.
Based on the
findings, the company has also systematically drawn up project plans to
increase the production of renewable energy in the region.
Although
Myanmar’s energy and infrastructure sectors are still developing and face
numerous investment challenges, China Datang Corporation has stated that it
will work to overcome these difficulties and bring mutual benefits to both
countries.
Located in
northern Myanmar, the Dapein I Hydropower Plant has an installed capacity of
240 megawatts. It is China Datang Corporation’s first overseas investment
project undertaken under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) arrangement, under a
contract signed with the Myanmar Government.
