Myanmar Airways International (MAI) welcomed a new ATR 72-600 aircraft, XY-ANE (MSN 1827), at Yangon International Airport at 5 pm on 28 September as part of its fleet expansion, according to the airline.
The aircraft was delivered from Toulouse, France, and arrived at Yangon International Airport on 28 September, where it was welcomed with a water cannon salute. In line with MAI’s tradition of naming its aircraft after cities in Myanmar, XY-ANE has been named “Nay Pyi Taw”.
The aircraft is the first ATR 72-600 in Myanmar equipped with the latest-generation PW127XT engines. The engines are expected to improve operational performance, reduce fuel consumption by up to five per cent and enhance on-wing reliability. The aircraft will also strengthen MAI’s connectivity on domestic and regional routes.
Another ATR 72-600, XY-ANF (MSN 1836), will also join the fleet, with MAI planning further expansion in line with its goal of building a modern and efficient fleet.
