Forging unity to ensure national development

 

The Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Bamar, Mon, Rakhine and Shan ethnic peoples and ethnic groups residing in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar have lived together in various regions and areas across the country, sharing the same future through kinship, and have remained united and lived together since time immemorial to this day.

The continuous development of a country, the strengthening of its sovereignty and the well-being of its people’s social and economic lives largely depend on the unity and sense of responsibility of its citizens, which serve as key driving forces. Myanmar has stood with dignity and pride among the nations of the world for many years as an independent and sovereign country with its own culture, traditions and monarchy. It is therefore the responsibility of all ethnic nationalities, through the strength of unity, to preserve and safeguard these fine traditions and heritage.

Ethnic unity is a very important issue. Before independence was lost, all ethnic nationalities lived together in unity across the land of Myanmar. After independence was lost, ethnic unity was undermined by colonialists through various forms of division. Even after regaining independence, those colonialists have been applying neocolonialism to deteriorate ethnic unity through various forms of division. As such, if the people cannot build Myanmar as a Union, conflicts will continue to occur. Therefore, everyone needs to understand that unity is of great importance.

Myanmar successfully overcame the COVID-19 pandemic through the concerted and united efforts of the government and the people. The country also overcame various challenges posed by natural disasters, including Cyclone Mocha in 2023, Typhoon Yagi in 2024 and the Mandalay earthquake in 2025, through the joint efforts of the government, the people and the Tatmadaw.

Such achievements are evidence of the strength of unity. Unity is a key factor in facing and overcoming all challenges and difficulties. When people work together with mutual respect, a spirit of solidarity, and a sense of responsibility and accountability, they can overcome all obstacles and achieve success.

The government and the people have to join hands to emphasize that they need to safeguard the nation and its sovereignty while protecting the whole nation, whether or not there are those who seek to harm the country. At the same time, they all have to forge national unity, whether or not there are those who seek to divide the country and its people; efforts must always be made to promote and maintain national unity among all ethnic nationalities.
