AFTER an offer was made to ethnic armed organizations to hold peace talks, the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee and Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF/TNLA) held a meeting at Shwe San Eain Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
At
the meeting, NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae said that the discussions need to
focus on achieving durable peace, as well as regional stability, peace, and
development. He pledged to address education, healthcare, and regional
development matters for the people in the Ta’ang Palaung region. He added that,
as an elected government has now emerged, amendments to the 2008 Constitution
could also be carried out. He also urged open and frank discussions on matters
related to regional stability, peace, development, and areas where joint
efforts and coordination could be undertaken.

ViceChair-1 Tar Jok Jar expressed his satisfaction for the unconditional
meeting to ensure peace and stability and development of the country. At
present, he added that the armed conflicts have ceased and the people have
begun to experience peace and stability. He expressed his belief that positive
and constructive outcomes would emerge from today’s discussions.
The
attendees at the meeting bilaterally talked about cooperation in implementing
the 100-day peace endeavours of the President and NSPNC, following the Haigeng
agreement, implementation of the ceasefire agreement, resolving
the political problems through the political ways to ensure improvement of
socioeconomy of the residents and peace restoration of the State, the stance on
cooperation in peace process, and education, healthcare, regional development
and transport measures.
Secretary
of the committee Lt-Gen Min Naing explained the political requirements via the
peace process, and situations for initiating the durable peace, regional
development measures and the previous discussions with PSLF/TNLA.
Both
sides signed to approve the meeting minute on discussions. PSLF/TNLA
Vice-Chair-1 Tar Jok Jar spoke words of thanks while NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar
Pyae gave a remark and presented gifts to PSLF/ TNLA.
