High-level Myanmar delegation led by President U Min Aung Hlaing visits Mahabodhi Pagoda in Bodh Gaya Cultural Region, India


Ahigh-level Myanmar delegation led by President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently in India on an official visit, visited the Mahabodhi Pagoda in the precinct of Mahabodhi Mahavihara Temple in the Bodh Gaya Cultural Region yesterday morning.

At the Mahabodhi Mahavihara Temple, the President and party paid homage to the Buddha Image at the Mahabodhi Pagoda and offered alms in the emerald alms-bowl, water, oil, light, flowers and robes. On behalf of the President, a venerable Sayadaw offered robes to the Buddha image.

They paid homage to the Buddha Image on the upper terrace of the pagoda and donated flowers, water and oil lights. They went round the pagoda clockwise, visited the Maha Bo tree and offered a Maravijaya Buddha Image.

The President donated cash for the overall renovation of the pagoda to the Mahabodhi Monastery Sayadaw, who returned Dhamma gifts.

After visiting the Mahabodhi Mahavihara Temple, they fed fish in the Mucalinda Lake.

At Sujata Temple, the President and party offered flowers, water, oil lights and milk meal to the Buddha image and donated cash for the temple.

The President and party proceeded to Mahabodhi Dhamma Yeiktha Myanmar Monastery, where they paid homage to Abbot Sayadaw Dr Bhaddanta Candamuni, took the Five Precepts and donated robes, offerings, and cash for nine prerequisites. Union ministers and officials who accompany the President also donated alms and cash for nine prerequisites to members of the Sangha.

They listened to a sermon delivered by the Sayadaw and shared the merits gained.

In the afternoon, the President-led Myanmar delegation left Gaya International Airport by special aircraft for New Delhi and was seen off at the airport by Governor of Bihar State LtGen (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain, the Myanmar Consul-General and officials together with the Guard of Honour.

On arrival at Palam Airbase in New Delhi, the President and party were warmly welcomed by Minister of State for External Affairs Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, the commander of Palam Airbase and officials, staff of the Myanmar Embassy and the Military attaché’s Office to India and families. During the welcoming ceremony, the President was flanked by the Guard of Honour on both sides of the passageway.
