Myanmar, China Underscore Need for Border Peace and Stability

 


President-elect of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received Ms Ma Jia, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar, at the Office of the National Defence and Security Council in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.

At the meeting, the Senior General expressed his pleasure that the Chinese ambassador was the first foreign envoy to meet him after he had been elected as President. Likewise, he extended special gratitude to President Mr Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China for sending a congratulatory message within hours of his election as President. The Senior General also expressed appreciation for China’s support of Myanmar’s political reforms, as a neighbouring friendly country.

The ambassador of China to Myanmar expressed her pleasure and honour at the election of His Excellency as President. She also extended her gratitude for His Excellency’s efforts in fostering good relations between Myanmar and China. She expressed her belief that under His Excellency’s leadership, Myanmar will become a stable, peaceful, and developing country, and that cooperation between the two countries will continue to grow even further.

They cordially discussed the enhancement of the diplomatic relations and cooperation between the two countries, the promotion of cooperation in security and other multiple sectors, the measures to ensure peace and stability in the border regions between the two countries, reopening of trade routes, and bilateral trade process, and the support of China in rehabilitation and reconstruction measures of Myanmar for loss and damage caused by the powerful Mandalay earthquake.

The Chinese ambassador presented a congratulatory message sent by President Mr Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China to President-Elect and SSPC Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Also, present at the meeting was Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe. The Chinese ambassador was accompanied by embassy officials.
