The coordination meeting of the Steering Committee on Holding Youth Peace Forum is underway in Nay Pyi Taw, addressed by Union Minister Lt-Gen Yar Pyae.
The coordination meeting of the
Steering Committee on Holding Youth Peace Forum was held yesterday afternoon at
the M Gallery Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, attended by the steering committee chairman
Union Minister Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, the National Solidarity and Peacemaking
Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing, committee members
including deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, and departmental officials,
while social affairs ministers from regions and states joined via
videoconferencing.
At the meeting, Steering Committee
Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae said the Youth Peace Forum is being planned because
young people, who make up more than a half of Myanmar’s population, play an
essential role in nation building, noting his desire for youth participation
and for passing on a peaceful environment to them, explaining that school-age
youth will be gathered to discuss and develop ideas related to peace, and
urging the participating ministries to provide suggestions and discuss issues
needed to form a working committee.
Steering Committee Secretary Lt-Gen
Min Naing said that the Youth Peace Forum is being organized in line with the
recommendations of the 10th Anniversary of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement
(NCA) Workshop and will discuss the vital role of youth in nation-building in
relation to peace, identify ways for young people to contribute to the
country’s future stability, and address matters related to the forum’s
preparations and coordination.
Deputy ministers, permanent
secretaries, directors-general, and regional and state social affairs ministers
discussed sectoral tasks, after which attendees offered suggestions and
discussed needs, and the chairman of the steering committee delivered a concluding
speech and adjourned the meeting.
Young people from diverse ethnic,
regional, and socioeconomic backgrounds need to have a meaningful role in
shaping Myanmar’s peaceful future, and the Youth Peace Forum 2026 is being
prepared to provide them with an opportunity to share their views, build mutual
trust, explore their role in promoting social harmony, and create a platform
for equal opportunities.
