The Government of Myanmar is conducting large-scale operations through a joint task force, comprising security personnel, administrative bodies, and local authorities, to clear illegal buildings in the Shwe Kokko and KK Park areas. These regions are known to have the highest concentrations of online scams and gambling operations. The mission involves the systematic demolition of illegal structures and the destruction of seized equipment used in these criminal activities.
As part of
the ongoing crackdown, further demolitions were carried out yesterday in
Section 3 of the Myawady-Maethawtalay (KK Park) area. The task force dismantled
12 additional illegal structures, including two three-storey buildings, nine
two-storey buildings, and one single-storey building. To date, 478 out of a
total of 635 illegal buildings identified in the KK Park area have been
systematically demolished.
Since 8
December, joint teams have also been conducting search and clearance operations
in and around Myawady, Kayin State. These efforts aim to prevent illegal
foreign nationals from residing in the area and to dismantle the infrastructure
required for online scams. Yesterday, inspections were conducted on a further
17 illegal buildings, consisting of two four-storey, three three-storey, five
two-storey, and seven single-storey structures.
Yesterday,
in the Shwe Kokko and KK Park areas of Myawady Township, authorities
systematically burned the items used in online scams and gambling to ensure
they could not be repurposed or reused.
The
government has designated the suppression of online scams and gambling as a
national duty. Reports indicate that the authorities will continue to
coordinate with both domestic forces and the governments of neighbouring
countries to ensure that such illegal activities cannot gain a foothold
anywhere within Myanmar.
