The opening ceremony for the 24th Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners Conference and Myanmar Traditional Medicine Symposium took place at the Myanmar International Convention Centre I in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
It
was attended by State Security and Peace Commission Member Prime Minister U Nyo
Saw, Union ministers, deputy ministers, senior Tatmadaw officers, departmental
officials, ambassadors and charge d’affaires of foreign embassies, relevant
officials of Myanmar Medical Council, Traditional Medicine Council, other
officials and invitees.
After
the ceremonial ribbon-cutting event, SSPC Member Prime Minister U Nyo Saw
pressed the electric button to inaugurate the event.
A
video message, sent by Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar
and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing
was screened during the opening ceremony.

SSPC
Member Prime Minister stated that the government places great importance on the
traditional medicine sector and is actively supporting, honouring, and
promoting it. Myanmar traditional medicine practitioners are being
systematically trained from the basic level through diploma programmes,
bachelor’s degrees, and up to master’s degree levels to ensure they become
fully qualified professionals. At this conference, senior traditional medicine
practitioners are able to share academic knowledge and practical experience
with the younger generation and pass on their legacy, providing significant
benefits. He urged the younger generation to continue working toward the
further development and advancement of traditional Myanma medicine in the
future.
He
continued that to implement the directives of the Head of the State, such as
“Only with good health can one pursue education, only with good health can one
work, nothing is more important than human life”, traditional medicine plays a
key role. Moreover, a collaborative effort to develop Myanmar traditional
medicine is needed to be able to keep abreast domestically or with ASEAN and
international traditional medicine sectors.
Therefore,
efforts must be made to further promote traditional Myanma medicine and to
ensure that traditional medicines are safe, free from harmful side effects, of
high quality, modernized, and to nurture more qualified human resources in the
traditional medicine sector.
He
stressed the need to prevent the disappearance of Myanmar traditional medicine
by researching medicines so that the public can use them with confidence and
trust, and reaffirmed that the government will continue to support and
encourage the further development of Myanmar traditional medicine. He also
highlighted the importance of further improving and establishing standards and
guidelines for traditional medicine, and the government is providing support in
terms of modern equipment and technologies, necessary manpower,
development-required sectors, and education and training programmes.
Preserving
and promoting Myanmar’s own traditional medicine resources and value systems
not fade or decline is a national duty and responsibility of the younger
generations.
He
watched the video clip featuring development measures for traditional medicine
and the entertainment programmes.
He
had a documentary photo taken together with the attendees.

observed the booths at the event.
