Since early November 2023, the KIA terrorist group and NUG-backed PDF terrorists have been continuously launching surprise attacks on military units and security outposts in Sagaing Region. They occupied certain towns and villages, including Htigyaing, Kawlin, Pinlebu, and Marathein village, using schools, village monasteries, and pagodas as bases to carry out acts of terrorism. They also imposed fear among local civilians by arresting and killing people, extorting money, and planting landmines and explosives on public roads and bridges. Therefore, Tatmadaw columns launched counter-terrorism operations to restore regional security and stability.
Similarly, on 20 September 2025, the KIA and NUG’s subordinates PDF terrorists launched a large-scale attack on security forces in Bamauk of Sagaing Region. They forcibly abducted civilians, recruited new members, and committed various violent acts in areas where they lacked local support. The Tatmadaw has since been conducting military operations, with the cooperation of residents, to retake Bamauk, which was temporarily controlled by the terrorists and to ensure territorial security and stability.
Tatmadaw columns systematically launched security measures to regain control of Bamauk, they found out that the KIA and PDF terrorists launched arson attacks on homes and departmental buildings on 26 October while arriving about 2,000 metres from the west and north west of Bamauk.
Tatmadaw columns are working to quickly extinguish the fires set by the terrorists, prevent the flames from spreading to other civilians’ homes, and ensure no further acts of terrorism occur. They also combat the remaining terrorists as quickly as possible.
