Building maintenance must preserve original condition

SAC Chairman PM Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspected displays at the Bogyoke Aung San Museum (Yangon) and the Ministers’ Office (Secretariat) in Yangon Region.

Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by the Council Joint Secretary, SAC members, Union ministers and the Chief Minister of Yangon Region, inspected display of objects at the Bogyoke Aung San Museum in Bahan Township and the Ministers’ Office (the Secretariat) in Botahtaung Township of Yangon Region yesterday morning.

At the Bogyoke Aung San Museum in Bahan Township, the Senior General interestingly viewed round the vehicle ridden by General Aung San, the documentary photos, the park, the portray of General Aung San, documentaries and photos on the different lives of General Aung San in childhood, university student, politician, Tatmadaw leader, State leader and his family life, his utensils, the brief history of the museum, the parlour, bedroom, prayer room, library, clothes and equipment, paintings, photos and furniture used by General Aung San displayed at special meeting rooms, his books, and the books on documentaries of the General published in successive eras. Officials conducted the Senior General round the museum.

After hearing the reports, the Senior General stressed the need to maintain the vehicle ridden by General Aung San with the help of technicians for long-term existence. Maintenance of the building must be systematic, aligned with the documentary photos not to lose the original state.

The Senior General gave guidance to officials to maintain photos displayed at the museum with the use of technology to produce better work. Moreover, he urged all to carry out a beautiful landscape along both sides of the road and the vicinity of the museum.

The residence of Myanmar’s architect of Independence General Aung San was transformed into the Bogyoke Aung San Museum (Yangon). It was built in 1921 with Western architectural works. General Aung San and his family lived there from May 1945 to the date of assassination in July 1947. Inside the exhibition hall, displays include the living room, dining room, bedroom, reading room, children’s bedroom, special meeting room, prayer room, the garden cultivated by General Aung San during his leisure time, a Wolseley brand car manufactured in England used by General Aung San, and a photo documentary room. The public can visit and explore free of charge every day from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, except on Mondays and public holidays, including Martyrs’ Day on 19 July.

On arrival at the Ministers’ Office (the Secretariat) in Botahtaung Township, the Senior General viewed round history documents and photos displayed in the building and maintenance of the Hluttaw hall. Officials conducted the Senior General round the building.

In his guidance, the Senior General said that it is necessary to enhance the clarity of the historical photographs and documents on display by using modern technology, and to present them in a well-organized exhibition. Moreover, he added that when labelling the photographs and utensils, it is important to ensure accuracy, consistency in writing formats, and clarity so that visitors can easily read and understand the information.

He also inspected the assassinated scene of the General and martyrs displayed at the office of the General and the meeting hall, a display of historical photos in the photo gallery, historical documentaries and maintenance of the building.

In response to the reports of officials, the Senior General underscored that it is necessary to exhibit the meeting room where General Aung San and the Martyrs were assassinated, along with General Aung San’s office, in their original layout. Historical photographs should be displayed with proper captions, and additional historical photos should be curated and exhibited. The Ministers’ Office (the Secretariat) building, being an invaluable historic landmark, must be maintained in its original form for long-term sustainability. Deteriorated parts of the building should be restored by experts systematically to ensure proper maintenance and structural integrity.
