Renewable energy drive powers solar factories

 

The Ministry of Electric Power and the Ministry of Industry need to cooperate in the development of solar panel production.

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by Council Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, the Yangon Region Chief Minister, the Commander of Yangon Command and officials, inspected the production of the Solar Panel Factory, Tyre Factory (Ywama), No 3 Steel Mill (Ywama) and No 2 Steel Mill (Myaungtaga) in Yangon Region yesterday morning.

At the hall of the Solar Panel Factory of Shwe Katha Company Limited under the Electronic Accessories and Electric Motor Workshop of the No 2 Heavy Industries Enterprise, Union Minister for Industry Dr Charlie Than reported to the Senior General on facts about the Electronic Accessories and Electric Motor Workshop, the Solar Panel Factory of the No 24 Heavy Industry (Dagon), the market of solar panels, import of solar panels, generating electricity from solar power with the use of solar panels and the managing director of Shwe Katha Co Ltd on production process of solar panels, and year-wise increased production.

In his guidance, the Senior General said that locally-made solar panels must meet the quality of the imported ones. Necessary raw materials used in solar panels must be produced at home. It is necessary to seek ways to produce silicon in the country. Sufficient production of solar panels can contribute much to generating electricity.

The Senior General stressed the need to generate electricity through solar power, both on a manageable scale and a commercial scale, to operate factories. If so, these factories can reduce production costs. Businesspeople must be encouraged with incentives to invest in generating electricity through solar power. The ministry needs to strive to generate electricity through solar power to ensure small-scale electricity for household use as well as large-scale electricity for factory use. Hence, the Ministry of Electric Power and the Ministry of Industry need to cooperate with each other in the development of solar panel production.

He continued that Myanmar has a sufficient volume of copper to be used in the production of wires for electricity installation. Hence, wires must be produced at home sufficiently.

The Senior General and the party inspected the production process of solar panels at the solar panel factory, the solar panels purchased from the market in 2021 for test production of solar panels, and the products of the company and gave necessary guidance to officials.

In inspecting the workshop of the Tyre Factory (Ywama) of Myanmar Economic Corporation, which produces motorcycle tyres and tubes, the factory manager and officials reported to the Senior General on the production of tyres and tubes for motorcycles and tri-wheeled cycles.

In his response, the Senior General gave guidance on making efforts to increase the production of tyres and tubes for motorcycles and tri-wheeled cycles to meet the domestic demand, to ensure the production of quality products and sufficiency of the domestic market, and to seek market share and other necessary measures.

At the meeting hall of No 3 Steel Mill (Ywama) of MEC, the Senior General heard reports by SAC member MEC Chairman General Nyo Saw and the mill manager on efforts to produce high-quality steel products, conducting quality control, reinstallation of machinery for the production machine which declines production capacity and upgrading of the machine, production of steel and related accessories, bolt and nuts, production of steel products, machine capacity, systematic production of quality products, control of quality for deformed bars which are higher than the set quality, iron melting video documentation, and sending HRB-500 steel billets from the mill to the No 1 Steel Mill (Kyaukswekyo).

After hearing the reports, the Senior General stressed the need to encourage domestic steel production as construction sites in the country require steel products. Production must meet quantities and quality.

The Senior General inspected the quality of steel products produced by the mill and foreign-made ones. He also observed the production of HRB-500 Steel Billets and gave necessary guidance to officials.

At the No 2 Steel Mill (Myaungtaga) of MEC in Hmawby Township, SAC member MEC Chairman General Nyo Saw reported on the accomplishment of the guidance given by the Senior General. The mill manager also presented a report production of steel frames used at river crossing bridges, the manufacturing of steel frames for overpasses, the production of tower poles, the coating of products, and efforts to produce steel frames for bridges and related accessories.

In his speech, the Senior General said that as the steel production industry is an essential sector for the nation, the mill is necessary to systematically continue the production of tower poles and steel bridge frames. If steel products for construction projects have to be imported every year, it will result in a significant financial burden for the country. Therefore, it is necessary to systematically utilize the available domestic iron resources to meet production needs. Priority should be given to producing steel billets, from which deformed bars used in construction can subsequently be manufactured. Efforts must also be made to upgrade existing domestic steel mills. During the Mandalay earthquake, inspections revealed that some construction steel products lacked sufficient quality, which served as a lesson. To ensure strong and durable construction, it is necessary to produce high-quality steel products specifically for construction purposes.

The Senior General visited the mill and inspected the production process of bridge frames and iron wares, inspected the jetty of the mill, and gave necessary guidance to officials.
