The Tazaungdine Festival, organized by the Rakhine State government and featuring events such as the lighting of 9,000 candles and the releasing of hot-air balloons, was celebrated at the precinct of Lawkananda Pagoda in Sittway on the evening of 15 November, with Rakhine Chief Minister U Htein Lin and his wife, the Chief Justice of the State High Court, members of the state government, departmental officials, and residents in attendance.
The festival began with the offering of
flowers, water, and lighting to the pagoda, followed by the chief minister and
his wife lighting the candles to mark the start. The chief minister and his
team then encouraged departmental officials and local residents as they lit
candles and made offerings, before joyfully releasing hot-air balloons at the
pagoda precinct.
Similarly, departmental officials and
locals celebrated the Tazaungdine lighting and hot-air balloon festival at
other pagodas in Sittway.
