The Ministry of Industry has announced an acquisition of natural gas for Garment Factory 1 (Shwetaung).
The factory has teamed up with Japan-based Suratomo Company
to start bleaching and dyeing processes for textiles and produce textiles to
meet local demand.
The Union Minister for Industry has stated the potential production boost and
product quality improvement by acquiring natural gas. The Industry Ministry and
the Energy Ministry signed a contract for natural gas acquisition for Garment
Factory 1 (Shwetaung) on 6 May.
The Union Minister for Energy said they set up a dedicated pipeline from the Yenangyoung Off-take for the factory. He also highlighted the efficient use of natural gas since its extraction has faced limitations.
Since 1987, the Energy Ministry has been providing natural gas to the factory from Pyay and Aphyauk oil fields. Presently, it annually supplies 30 million cubic feet of natural gas to 12 factories under the Industry Ministry. Additionally, it provides 9.5 million cubic feet of natural gas daily for urea chemical fertilizer plants.
As of February in the financial year 2023-24, the Energy Ministry extracted over 1.4 million barrels of crude oil and 888 million cubic feet of natural gas from 10 inland fields.
