Administrator, police officers, former village head in Pauk Township face corruption charges


A complaint was filed with the Anti-Corruption Commission against the Pauk Township Administrator and employees for receiving bribes from people who were operating unlicensed small-scale crude oil explorations at the Latpando Inland Oil Field in Pauk Township, Magway Region, and from those who transported crude oil from the oil field to Monywa.

The complaint mentioned that the authorities told the business people that the money they asked for was intended for regional development work.
Following the complaint, the Anti-Corruption Commission formed an investigation team and looked into the allegations.
It was found that the accused held an illegal meeting with the businessmen from the oil fields at the Pauk Township General Administration Office to receive money.
Also, the investigation discovered that U Kyaw Swa Ohn, Head of Pauk Township Administration Office, received K8,850,000 from the Tharakkan Village Development Fund; Police Maj. Zaw Win Shwe of Pauk Township Police Force, who is currently serving at the Sagaing Region Police Office, received K1,760,000; U Zaw Min Oo, former head of the village, K77,149,800; and Police Inspector Than Zaw of Pakokko Crime Unit, who is now serving at the Crime Unit of the Myanmar Police Force in Nay Pyi Taw, received K450,000.
According to the Anti-Corruption Commission, the accused were found to have abused their power of authority to receive the bribes.
Files have been opened against the four accused under section 56 of the Anti-Corruption law at Pauk Police station.
