Myanmar Fire Services Department
must enhance its prowess to stand shoulder to shoulder with its international
counterparts, said Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe at its 73rd
anniversary yesterday.
At the anniversary held at the MFSD
parade ground in Mayangon Township, Yangon Region, the Union Minister presented
medals to firemen for their outstanding performance.
In his address, Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe
said the MFSD is implementing its four objectives – fire prevention, natural
disaster prevention, search and rescue operations and public welfare services.
Based on the prevailing situation
and future possibilities, MFSD needs manpower, equipment power and
technological power development for improvement of its structure and core
values, he noted.
The Union Minister also explained
the aims of the department which include the task of protecting public lives
and property and capital and assets of the State and conducting search and
rescue operations during manmade and natural disasters.
A march-past of the Union Minister
by companies and fire-engines of MFSD was followed by the skill demonstrations
of firemen.
The Union Minister and wife
presented gifts to the firemen of the parade companies. Afterwards, the Union
Minister and distinguished guests visited the booths. Also present at the
ceremony were the Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement
and wife, the commander of Yangon Command, officers of the MFSD, retired
officers, departmental personnel, members of Myanmar War Veterans Organization,
donors, artists and invited guests.
