FOUR hundred and thirty seven
prisoners from Mandalay Prison received presidential pardons yesterday, among
them 39 are women and three are foreigners, and most were serving terms for
drug trafficking cases.
“The prisoners who are
released today have received correctional training and they also have received
vocational skills. So, they are ready to serve the interest of their families
and the country when they back their communities,” said U Cho Win, Deputy
Director of the Mandalay Central Prison. A total of 698 prisoners from
Mandalay, Meikhtila, Myingyan, Yamethin, NyaungU and Nay Pyi Taw prisons were
released yesterday.
