The Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and
Resettlement, Dr. Win Myat Aye, traveled to Myitkyina, Kachin State, yesterday
where he provided social protection and humanitarian assistance at Metta Yin
Kwin humanitarian sanctuary and Lea Gon Baht Lin IDP camps.
The Union Minister and entourage first arrived at the
sanctuary and met with the children there. He told the children the Union
government is implementing the rights of children. He said everyone needs to
work together with the Union spirit to achieve peace in Myanmar as a lot of
different ethnic races call it home. The entire country needs to be developing
at the same pace, he said. The Union Minister then provided humanitarian
assistance to the sanctuary including K2,344,000 as education stipend for
college students and primary students and K18,360,000 for purchasing rice, food
and clothing. The Kachin State government also provided t-shirts, longyis, and
school uniforms.
The Union Minister then met with children playing in the
children’s fun ground, donated by the Orphans Reduction and Protection
Association, and gave them nutritional snacks and toys. He then inspected the
dairy farm in the sanctuary.
Next, the Union Minister and entourage arrived in Lea Gon
Baht Lin IDP camp and met with the camp’s residents. The Union Minister
provided humanitarian assistance to the IDP camp including K2,618,000 as
education stipend for college students and primary students, K6,826,875 for a
month’s worth of rice, edible oil, salt and lentils, K4,857,500 for supporting
basic and advanced sewing classes, computer classes, and driving lessons, and
K1,005,000 as assistance for children under 5 years of age, pregnant mothers,
and families led by women. The Union Minister also distributed nutritional
snacks for the children. The Union Minister then met with ward administrators
in the IDP camps.
The total amount of yesterday’s monetary assistance is
K36,056,375. Accompanying the Union Minister were the Kachin State minister for
social welfare and ministry officials.
