The
opening ceremony of the Mekong MOU Senior Officials Committee Meeting (SOC) on
Drug Control was held at Nay Pyi Taw’s Thingaha Hotel yesterday.
Deputy
Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Aung Soe, who is also a member of the Central
Committee for Prevention and dangers of narcotic drugs and Psychotropic
Substances delivered the opening speech.
Present
at the ceremony were Secretary of the Central Committee for Prevention and
dangers of narcotic drugs and Psychotropic Substances, Police Chief of Myanmar
Police Force, Aung Win Oo, the representative from the United Nations Office on
Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Mr. Jeremy Douglas and his delegation, and
representatives from Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand, and Viet Nam.
Deputy
Police Chief Aung Naing Thu of Myanmar Police Force acted as the Chair.
The
representatives discussed the ten projects implemented as part of the
Mekong-Lancang countries, financial situations, prioritized projects, future
collaborations, projects for 2019, the project roadmap for Mekong region, the
Mekong MOU Ministerial Level meeting for 2019, and other general discussion.
The
meeting continues today.
