The
Customs Department is checking for illegal goods flowing into the country
through airports, seaports and border trade channels, as some Ks358.6 million
worth of goods for which customs duty was not paid were seized last month.
Customs
authorities detected 29 cases of illegal goods along export/import trade
channels in April. Meanwhile, some Ks1.92 billion worth of goods for which the
custom duties were unpaid were seized in 320 cases at customs checkpoints
across the country, according to data provided by the Customs Department.
In
April 2018, six cases of illegal goods were detected at Yangon International
Airport, with an estimated value of Ks78 million, while eight cases of illegal
goods valued at Ks136 million were detected at Yangon Port. Additionally, 29
cases of illegal goods with an estimated value of Ks358.6 million at the
Mandalay Region Customs Department, 18 cases with a value of Ks110 million at
the Bago Region Customs Department, 107 cases with Ks590.5 million at Yebyu
checkpoint, and 132 cases of illegal goods worth Ks503 million at Mayanchaung
checkpoint were found.
Moreover,
two cases of illegal goods worth Ks19.8 million at Hpa-an Township Customs
Department, six cases valued at Ks19.5 million at Muse Township Customs
Department, two cases of illegal goods worth Ks16.898 at Mawlamyine Township
Customs Department, three cases with a value of Ks12.4 million at Bhamo Township
Customs Department, one case with a value of Ks4.8 million at Myawady Township
Customs Department, two cases worth Ks46.8 million at Kengtung Township Customs
Department and four cases with value of Ks29.8 million at Lwejel one-stop
service checkpoint were inspected, making up Ks1.927 billion worth of illegal
goods.
