A
dinner commemorating the National Day of Norway was held at the Hilton Hotel in
Nay Pyi Taw yesterday evening.
Present
at the event were Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Win Khaing, Union
Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Ohn Win, Union
Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin, Chairman of Anti-Corruption
Commission U Aung Kyi, Deputy Minister for Information U Aung Hla Tun, representatives
of Pyithu Hluttaw and Amyotha Hluttaw, officials from the ministries and
invited guests as well as Norwegian Ambassador to Myanmar Ms. Tone Tinnes and
officials from embassies.
A
documentary video of Norwegian National Day was shown, followed by the opening
of the National Day event by playing the national anthems of Myanmar and
Norway.
In
her speech at the event, Norwegian Ambassador Ms. Tone Tinnes said Norway is
cooperating with Myanmar in the hydroelectric, oil and gas sectors and
providing assistance to ensure access to electricity for all by 2030. The
Myanmar-Norway Business Council plays an important role for Norwegian companies
to operate in Myanmar, and Norwegian companies are already investing in
Myanmar, Ms. Tinnes said. Memorandums of Understanding on the fisheries and
petroleum management sectors are expected to be signed in the near future, she
added.
In
his speech at the event, Union Minister U Win Khaing expressed his delight to
Norway for standing with Myanmar people in peace, reconciliation and democracy
matters in Myanmar, removing the sanction imposed by European countries,
supporting the development of the hydroelectric sector and assisting in
environmental conservation in Myanmar. Well-known Norwegian companies are
investing in Myanmar and are practicing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),
business practices that are greatly appreciated, the minister said.
Norway
is considered as an important ally of Myanmar and its development. President U
Win Myint mentioned social economic development of Myanmar being a priority of
the government, and the assistance of Norway being very beneficial to build a
democratic federal union of Myanmar. The Union Minister noted the cooperation
to promote friendship between the two countries and its people. The Norwegian
Ambassador, Union Ministers and invited guests had dinner together after taking
commemorative group photos.
