The
Fourth Myanmar-EU Human Rights Dialogue was held at the office of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw, on 5 March 2018.
The
dialogue was co-chaired by U Kyaw Tin, Union Minister for International
Cooperation, and Stavros Lambrinidis, European Union (EU) special
representative for human rights.
The
dialogue was attended by senior officials from the ministries concerned,
Kristian Schmidt, ambassador of the delegation of the European Union to
Myanmar, senior officials of the EU and diplomats from some EU member states
stationed in Yangon.
During
the dialogue, the participants exchanged their views on a wide range of human
rights issues related to labour rights, the situation in Rakhine State, freedom
of expression, access to basic social service, gender issues, human trafficking
and related exploitation, protection of the rights of persons belonging to
minorities and combating and prevention of religious intolerance and incitement
to hatred, human rights cooperation in the United Nations, and Myanmar’s
accession to and the implementation of international human rights conventions
and treaties, as well as the rights of refugees and migrants and national
minorities in EU member states.
